Chaos at Howe Community Park Sends 4 People Shot in Arden-Arcade Sacramento

Sacramento County deputies are probing a gun violence incident that erupted Saturday night April 18 at the Howe Community Park area as officers were shutting down a large unsanctioned party of several hundred people.

Background

Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies were first dispatched to the Arden-Arcade park at about half past six in the evening after being notified of individuals possibly carrying concealed weapons. After that, additional information came in mentioning a reported physical confrontation breaking out near the park.

A sheriff's airship scanned the area from the air but found nothing to substantiate the fight report. However, it was apparent that an enormous crowd had packed into the park without any permit or approval.

The Dispersal and Shooting

Deputies started clearing the unauthorized gathering by setting up around the park's perimeter and issuing commands over loudspeakers commanding those gathered to go home. Roughly 15 minutes were provided for individuals to vacate.

Just as the crowd began to move that between 20 and 25 rounds were fired. The shots sent hundreds fleeing. Deputies quickly moved to finding those who had been shot.

Four Victims Hospitalized

Ultimately, four gunshot victims check here were discovered with shooting injuries. The victims — comprising three men and one woman all reportedly in their mid to late twenties — were transported to local Sacramento hospitals. Medical personnel stated that two had critical injury classifications, one of the four had moderate gunshot wounds, and one sustained minor gunshot wounds. Thankfully, all four victims survived and were stable.

The Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District assisted at the location and provided medical assistance those with gunshot wounds at the park.

What Investigators Found

The main crime scene was confirmed to have taken place near the Cottage Way corridor next to the local Home Depot located at the 2200 block of Howe Ave. Detectives located further ballistic evidence in the form of shell casings along Cottage Way. Projectile impacts were observed in the wrought iron fence near the Home Depot store. This evidence suggested that a shooter had been shooting in a southerly direction from Cottage Way targeting the Home Depot building and parking lot. The Home Depot was secured under a brief lockdown while law enforcement worked the area. Forensic investigators and law enforcement detectives continued working for hours.

Suspect Information

Information obtained over scanner radio traffic indicated that a Kia connected to the shooting had been stopped in Solano County California. Four occupants were detained. Sheriff's units were sent to retrieve the detainees to transport the detainees for further questioning. Video that was reviewed revealed that two shooters had been involved.
